“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

— Maya Angelou

My therapeutic approach

My therapeutic approach is rooted in the fundamental belief of the interconnection of people, animals and our environment. As humans, we’re not meant to walk through life alone and it is our struggles that make us feel alone, alienated from the world. My aim is to offer hope, healing, joy and meaning through the therapeutic process. By providing a supportive environment, I endeavor to guide you towards rediscovering these connections. Therapy, to me, is a journey of remembrance and awakening — a journey that leads us back to our authentic selves. Through this journey, you may discover that the self holds all the wisdom you need, and through reconnection, you became acquainted with your inner healer.

My professional background

I have provided mental health services and support to my community for over 10 years. My professional career began at the Freedom House Recovery Center as an outpatient therapist. Through this community work, I gained the experience necessary to move into a roll at an inpatient crisis facility as a crisis counselor focusing on addition, trauma and dual diagnosis. After years in this position, I felt called to provide services through private practice, which I have now been doing for eight years.

I am licensed by North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC). I first graduated from Duke University in Durham with a Master’s in Liberal Studies with a focus on Human Development and a Certificate in Women’s Studies. I completed my counselor education at North Carolina Central University.

I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA). I have specialty training in EMDR, Gottman couples counseling, Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, and I am working on my Certificate in Animal Assisted Therapy.

I provide a free 10 minute phone consultation so we can both take time to know more about whether I will be a good fit for you and your goals.
