Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

I work with Dr. Hani ElWafi at Transformance Health to provide ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP). The premise of KAP is that during an oral or intramuscular ketamine-induced dissociative state, similar to the “trip” one experiences with other psychedelic medicines, combined with guided therapy and integration, the patient can experience an introspective journey that is reparative and healing. Once the client has been medically cleared by Dr. Elwafi, I work with clients for all parts of the KAP experience—preparation, the medicine session itself, and integration afterwards.

What is Ketamine-Assisted Therapy?

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is a treatment method that involves using ketamine’s trance-inducing and pain-relieving properties to help individuals work through various mental and emotional challenges.

How is Ketamine used in Psychotherapy?

Ketamine can be utilized in therapy to facilitate psychological healing and transformation, particularly in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. When administered in controlled, subanesthetic doses, it induces altered states of consciousness, allowing individuals to access and explore suppressed or unconscious thoughts, emotions, and memories. This dissociative state creates a therapeutic window where patients, guided by a trained psychotherapist, can work through traumatic experiences, reframe negative thought patterns, and address the emotional roots of their mental health challenges. The synergistic combination of ketamine’s psychotropic effects and psychotherapeutic intervention aims to promote lasting change, enhance self-awareness, and improve overall mental well-being, providing a valuable option for those with treatment-resistant mental health conditions.
